have a big council full of wonderful Knights. As Knights, as Catholics,
and as responsible citizens we need to identify and hold as examples those
who live the life God intended. Each month Council 4118 can recognize
one of its Knights with The Knight Of The Month Award.

The June Knight of the Month
is Jeff Arensdorf, for his work over the years with the Harbor House
Auction held each February. Jeff also has taken a leadership role
with Gary Skoch with the Memorial Weekend flag project at Resurrection
Cemetery.

Mike
has been one of our Council's biggest recruiters of new members, and
does a great job of promoting both our Council and the Knights in
general. He has put a lot of time and energy into the Council
website and monthly email updates which have been great sources of
information for Council members. He has taken a lead role in and promoted
several of our Council's activities, from the various steak, chicken,
and fish fries that our Council has put on, to the Tootsie Roll drive,
to the Nun's Appreciation Day.

For
his work with many dances including the New Years Dance and continual
help on any and all projects, keeping us fed at the membership party,
and efforts to attract new young members.
Brett
was recognized at the 2004 State Convention for his efforts, winning
District 34 Knight of the Year. The list of projects he has played
a major role in goes on and on.

The
Dec 2004 Family of the Month and 2004 Family of the Year is Jim and
Betty Monroe. Their extensive activities were published below in the
2004 Family of the Year section. |

Don
and Hope Roberts |
The
family of Don and Hope Roberts has been named August Family of the
Month. Don and Hope have been married for 48 years and are members
of St. Patrick¹s Parish. Don was born in Salina and met Hope in her
hometown of Wichita where they have lived all their married lives.
Don is an usher at St. Patrick’s and Hope helps with the funeral dinners.
Don
loved to fish and hunt and used to frequent the Lake of the Ozarks
but after a hip and knee replacement his physical activities have
slowed down a little.
After
19 years of service, Don retired from White Star Machinery and Supply
in 1997. He worked in the Parts and Sales Department. He currently
works part-time for Rolox Home Center. Hope retired from SRS after
18 years of service. Hope is proficient in Spanish having learned
the language from her parents and is a part-time translator and
interpreter for her brother who is a Wichita attorney.
During
his years with the council Don has been Director on the Family Home
Association for eighteen years. He was a member of the First degree
team and the Third degree team for about fifteen years. He is a
veteran of the Korean War and a member of American Legion Post 4
for 31 years.

Arnold
and Evelyn Schnieders |
The
family of Arnold and Evelyn Schnieders has been named July Family
of the Month.
Arnold
and Evelyn have been married 46 years and have three children and
four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Two of their children
live in the Wichita area and one lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
They are members of St. Francis of Assisi parish.
Arnold
is an usher and proofreads the monthly parish newsletter, the Vernacular.
Evelyn helps prepare funeral dinners. Arnold and Evelyn both assist
at Mass by taking the offertory gifts to the altar, and have participated
in weekly Perpetual Adoration for 20 years. They are active with
Harvest House.
In
Council 4118 Arnold has held the office of Treasurer for seven years
and has been an in-side guard. He also is a member of the fourth
degree honor guard, the 3rd Degree Ceremonial Team, and Chairman
of the canned food committee. He was Membership Director for three
years and Youth Activity Director for one year. He is a member of
the council’s team that serves at the Lord’s Diner.
Arnold
retired from the Wichita Public Schools with 35 years of ser-vice
as a teacher. Evelyn is retired from NCR with 18 years of service.
They love to travel and enjoy bowling and going to Rodeos.

Mike
and Teresa Petersen Family |
The
family of Mike and Teresa Petersen has been named as the March Family
of the Month. Mike and Teresa grew up in the same small town, were
high school sweethearts and will celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary
this August. They have 5 children including 3 girls, Jordan age 10,
Madeline 6 and Layne 2, as well as 2 boys, Dirk age 9 and Logan 5,
and are expecting a 6th (boy #3) due in July. They are active members
of St. Francis of Assisi Parish and School. Mike discovered and joined
the Knights in 1999 when Teresa went through RCIA. He is a 4th degree
member, the current Deputy Grand Knight and Web Site Chairman, as
well as past Church Director. |

James
and Betty Monroe |
The
2004 Family of the Year is James and Betty Monroe. The Family of the
Month for December is the family of Jim and Betty Monroe. Jim and
Betty have been married 24 years. After both being widowed, Jim and
Betty were married in May 1980. With Jim’s six children and Betty’s
five children they have a total of eleven children. They are expecting
their 36th grandchild in May, and have 9 great grandchildren.
Jim
and Betty are members of St. Joseph Parish and also regularly attend
the Latin Mass at St. Anthony parish. Having both served on the
Parish Council at St. Joseph’s, Jim and Betty continue to volunteer
for the Pro-Life Committee, and Betty works the funeral dinners
at St. Joseph. Jim and Betty are both active in the West Sedgwick
County Right-to-Life organization. They have gone to Washing- ton,
D.C., numerous times for the March for Life, and to many court appearances
for their participation in civil disobedience in protecting the
unborn.
Jim
served in World War II as a member of the Second Marine Division.
He served in the South Pacific from 1942 to 1944, participating
in the first offensive action in the Pacific against the Japanese.
He first saw action at Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands in 1942
freeing the island from Japanese occupation. He then went to Tarawa
and finally Saipan where he was wounded in 1944. He was taken to
Camp Lejeune in North Carolina where he completed his time in the
Marines and recovered from his wounds.
Jim
originally joined the Knights 1948 in Fort Worth, Texas. He moved
to Newton where he moved up through the chairs finally serving as
Grand Knight. Jim took a leave of absence and was reinstated, joining
Council 4118 in 1980. He has worked the Tootsie Roll drives, Life-saver
Sundays, and the Christmas Tree Lot. This year Betty helped Jim
spearhead the very successful German Supper benefit dinner that
earned $1,200 for the pro-life cause.
This
nomination is being forwarded to the District level.

Harry
Flanigan Family |
Harry
joined the Knights in 1950 while in high school and after active membership
in the Squires program. His three sons followed him into the
Fourth Degree. Harry and Rita celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary
recently. They were married on Nov. 6,1943 at St. Joseph Church, Wichita
and have the following children: Betty Feyerabend, Pat Flanigan,
and Mark Flanigan. Another son, Mike is deceased. They have
16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
This
nomination was forwarded to the District level.
